So we know that Micah was prophesying in Judah during the time of King Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. And we know that Isaiah and Micah overlapped during their prophetic ministries. My notes say that Isaiah prophesied to the court in Jerusalem while Micah prophesied to the common people of Judah.
Verse 3 says God will come down and tread on the high places and in verse 5 we are told that the high place in Judah is Jerusalem. I assume because the king at the time hadn't taken down the high places where they people worshiped idols? Even though it's terrifying I love verse 4 and how it speaks to the great and awesome power of God. He can make the mountains melt just like we see when wax is before fire.
Samaria is the capital of Israel I think so I'm not sure why Micah is including them in this prophesy, thought according to the sheet I have Micah overlapped with Israel before their fall to Assyria so he must have been prophesying to them too!
I assume verse 8 means Micah goes around barefoot and naked, lamenting. I think verses 10-16 are about cities in the area (either Israel or Judah?) and here's a list of what's to come:
- shameful nakedness
- no escape
- support taken away
- weakness
- calamity
- baldness and cutting off of their hair
- exile
